Job Title: Welder - Offshore

Division: OMIS Division

Reporting to: Mechanical Leadman


Responsibilities:

▌ He/She shall report directly to the Mechanical leadman.

▌ He/She shall be responsible for carrying out the following disciplines:-

i. All types of structural welding on offshore projects.

ii. All types of process pipe SCOPE and fittings with grades of steel varying from API 5L Grade B through to API 5L X65 inclusive.

iii. In accordance with ASME IX for TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding procedure. The test must be carried out in the 6G positions.

▌ He/She shall be familiar with COMPANY specification and AWS D1.1 and have passed a 6GR welding test in accordance with COMPANY procedures. He/She must be proficient at “TKY” welded connections.

▌ To carry out his/herSCOPE he needs to be familiar with the full range of piping fittings used in the oil industry and the various techniques required to weld them. He/She must also be aware of the piping pressure classification used.

▌ The welder is responsible for the tacking up, pre-heating (if acquired) and welding out full joint. For complex fits-up he will have pipe lifter to assist him. He/She shall carry/pull his own welding and cutting leads, electrodes and tools to the SCOPE place.

▌ He/She shall be solely responsible for his welding equipment and tools on a platform at all times. He is required to keep his work area clean and clear at all times, between changing worksites and at the end of shifts. When necessary He/She will have a rigger to help him.


Qualification & Competencies:

Apprenticeship trained up to tradesman level; provide certificates if available in the absence of certified proof of experience a more stringent check will be made on the welders capabilities. A minimum of 5 years experience as a certified welder of which 4 years have been in Oil & Gas Industries. He/She will be required to pass all welders test as identified by the COMPANY Welding Specifications and DEP irrespective of being previously qualified.

He/She shall be competent, efficient and experienced in welding and cutting techniques and be familiar with all relevant procedures essential to their application under field or offshore conditions. He/She shall require only the minimum of supervision and shall be able to read and interpret drawings or sketches. He shall be completely trustworthy to do his utmost and best work at all times, and shall be familiar with all relevant safety procedures offshore particularly on safety aspects when Working on “live” platforms.

He/She shall be fully responsible for having on board a toolbox containing all “tools of his trade” required for the SCOPE, and for keeping the set replenished.

His/Her performance will be monitored and at the COMPANY’s discretion he may be required to be re-tested or removed depending on his effectiveness and repair rate.

He/She shall be able to read, write and speak English and/or Malay.
