Scope of Construction Workers:

  1. Performs work on construction sites such as carpentry work, bricklaying or masonry work, drywall installation, cement finishing, plumbing, tiling, painting etc. Unloads and loads materials.


Duties/Responsibilities:

• Interpret complex blueprints, drawings and specifications and determine layout and work sequences.

• Cuts and bend, shapes structures, forms, bars, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fibreglass, metal or metal sheet or drywall.

• Uses various hand and power tools to perform the work.

• Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.

• Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with proper tools.

• Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete

• Prepares concrete and mortar and lay stones, bricks, blocks etc to form structures according to drawings or plans.

• Ensures that surfaces are prepared before beginning work.

• Cuts bricks or tiles that are needed for corners, arches, and complex patterns.

• Maintains and repairs broken pipes, and clogged drains.

• Installs underground sanitary, drainage, and water supply piping systems.

• Measures, cuts, threads, assembles and installs pipes or pipe fixtures for water and air systems using right tools.

• Fits valves and components for tanks, pumps or other plumbing system.

• Inspects plumbing systems to identify issues and initiates repairs.

• Possesses knowledge of various types of paints and acquire special finishing techniques.

• Ensures compliance with building codes and set safety standards.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualification & Experience:

  1. Vocational School or Technical College or apprenticeship program with at least 3 years of experience via on the job training required.


Requirements, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
  2. Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately.
  3. Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade.
  4. Thorough understanding of the principles of different trades and methods.
  5. Works well as part of a team.  
  6. Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.  
  7. Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
  8. Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.  
  9. Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
