Position: Construction - Subject Matter Expert

This person will provide construction engineering (SME) services for BSP Offshore & Onshore remotely thus, there is no requirement for mobilization to Brunei Darussalam.


Objective of this role as below:

  1. To leverage SME expertise in complex construction engineering within the oil & gas sector to enhance project execution, risk mitigation, and technical oversight across specific onshore and offshore projects
  2. Develop internal capacity by mentoring future local SMEs.


Roles of Subject Matter Expert:

  1. Serve as a strategic technical advisor, supporting BSP Construction Engineers on key construction projects, both Greenfield and brownfield, from concept through construction. The focus will be on ensuring engineering integrity, constructability, safety, and cost-effective execution.


Key Responsibilities of SME:


Provide Technical Advisory & Design Review:

  1. Evaluate and optimize engineering designs for constructability and operational efficiency.
  2. Provide expert input throughout project phase from FEED to detailed design phases.
  3. Supporting cost-efficient engineering solutions.
  4. Advising on design, routing, constructability, and risk mitigation for aging infrastructure.
  5. Providing technical leadership on Enhanced Long-Term Capacity projects to ensure scalable and sustainable construction outcomes.


Project Execution Support:

  1. Review construction methodologies by execution contractors.
  2. Provide alternative and effective solution
  3. Advise on complex sequencing, logistics, and interface management across disciplines and contractors.


Risk & Compliance Management:

  1. Identify and mitigate engineering and construction risks.
  2. Ensure adherence to industry’s best practices.


Stakeholder Engagement:

  1. Liaise with project managers, EPC contractors, and project supporting matrix.
  2. Represent engineering interests in technical meetings.


Knowledge Transfer & SME Development:

  1. Mentor and train selected construction engineers within BSP construction engineers to become future SMEs.
  2. Conduct structured workshops and technical deep-dives.
  3. Develop personalized development plans and track progress toward SME readiness.
  4. Provide mentorship to ensure long-term technical resilience by cultivating internal SME talent within the target timeline.


Deliverables:

  1. Constructability assessments
  2. Construction Engineering input for design, procurement and contracts.
  3. Knowledge-sharing sessions
  4. Quarterly progress update on the knowledge transfer – assessed by dept heads.


Duration & Engagement:

  1. 3 years
  2. Availability: Part-time basis
  3. Salary: based on agreed hourly rate and signed timesheet (CTR).
